Audience:
The Heartsaver CPR and AED training program is intended for individuals and companies from non-healthcare related fields. This program is for non-healthcare workers such as teachers, law enforcement, construction workers, office employees and fitness trainers, who require CPR and AED certification. Individuals from the healthcare field must consider taking a CPR training program designed for healthcare workers.
Course Content:
- Key changes and updates in CPR techniques and devices based on the 2010 American Heart Association (AHA) guidelines for cardiopulmonary resuscitation and emergency cardiovascular care
- Effective administration of first aid based on the 2010 American Heart Association and American Red Cross guidelines
- Assessment and management of medical emergencies such as breathing difficulties, bleeding injuries, chest discomfort, seizure, physical trauma and burns
- Proper use of an automated external defibrillator (AED)
- AHA chain of survival; calling 911, performing CPR and providing early defibrillation
- Early recognition of major adult emergencies namely cardiac arrest, stroke and foreign-body airway obstruction (FBAO)
- CPR and FBAO management on infants, children and adults
